Meet at CHY THAI, 2720 Canyon, Boulder (303) 440-2903 for tasty Thai and a PROGRAM! July Mensa birthdays will be celebrated. Informal book exchange (bring books and for goodness sake, TAKE some books!). Rita Prangle will introduce our speaker, Brian E. Mapes, Associate Professor, Meteorology and Physical Oceanography Division, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, at the University of Miami. Brian will offer a short think piece and (hopefully) conversation starter about what constitutes knowledge in a world organized on many scales, using climate as an example. “Averages are a fiction, everywhere but nowhere; yet local details are often merely distractions from large-scale truths. What does it mean to ‘understand’ a complex system, in the contemporary climate science business and beyond?”

Marty’s Game Night

Once a month, a group of sociable people get together to play games in north Boulder. We usually play party games (cranium, trivia, cards, word games) rather than strategy or war games (we occasionally break out a “geek” game). Come at 7:00 PM, the last Saturday of every month. There are two cats in residence. No smoking, please. Non–Mensans welcome too.
